Focusing On...
Food and Drink
There is a rumour that Argentina and Chile are quite good at wine so we will be investigating that wherever possible. Also, South America claims to be at the forefront of the craft beer boom. We'll see about that! In the mean time we will try to obtain sustenance from the occasional visit to a parrilla and the odd empanada between meals.
Exploring on Foot & Bicycle
We will plan to get our daily steps up and explore the towns and cities on foot (with the occasional bicycle) and avoid the taxis and the underground trains as much as possible. There will be cities, towns and villages as well as hiking through national parks.
The journey
as well as the destination
We will be moving from place to place using a variety of planes, trains, buses, ferries, self drive cars and taxis and the expectation is that some of the journeys will be as eventful as the destinations.
Route overview and countries planned
A 3 month tour, starting and ending in Buenos Aires, with a day in Brazil at Iguazu Falls followed by Salta and its environs, Cordoba and Mendoza (wine country). Then onto Chile with Santiago, Valparaiso, La Serena and the Elqui Vally (more wine) followed by Bariloche (known as the Argentinan Lake District) and Chiloe Island. As the weather gets warmer it is down to Patagonia then back to Buenos Aires with a quick ferry to Uruguay for some final sunshine before the flight back from Buenos Aires.
