Staying in an AirBNB apartment in Mendoza, we had a rare urge to conserve resources and eat in for a change. A brief stop at a supermarket and we had all the ingredients for a veggie chilli (the antidote for all that Argentinian meat we have been eating). Just about to get all Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen and it turns out there’s no tin opener! We ask the host and there is a confirmation that she had no expectation of us opening any tins. However the ever helpful host gives us the address of a tin opening vendor close by. So off we trot and it turns out to be an old fashioned ironmongers. A long narrow shop with a rope stopping you going more than 2 metres in. You describe your problem and Mendoza hardware guy goes and gets the thing to fix it. The depressed looking man in front of us had severe plumbing problems by the look of it. We only had to wait 10 minutes and we were sorted. Back home in another 10 and back all Gordon Ramsey again. Then I find there’s no matches for the gas stove!
Cracking selection of tasteful lampshades though …
The tin opener lasted 24 hours and precisely 4 tins.
