A couple of kilometres out of Bariloche there is a cable car that takes you to the top of the Cerro Otto. From there, there were lots of walking trails. So off we went. The complex at the top end of the cable car had some nice lookout areas and also a rotating restaurant. I wasn’t aware of this until I noticed the waitress getting further and further away as she took our order. Following an apple strudel lunch we were frustrated because we couldn’t find the door out onto the mountain to walk. Strangely there was an information desk in the complex and we were informed that they weren’t allowing people onto the mountain due to the risk of falling trees. A cursory look out of the window showed that there were no actual trees that high up. The info guy was unmoved and mentioned insurance as the main factor (can it be true that a cable car company would be liable for a tree falling on your head as you walked down the mountain)? So we came down the mountain again by cable car.
