Day 1 in Montevideo and we were looking forward to eggs and coffee for breakfast in the Airbnb with use of their professional style coffee machine. However, the mood was downgraded somewhat when it transpired that the plug for the coffee machine didn’t actually fit into the electrical socket in the kitchen (or any other one). And no frying pan either! A quick message to the ‘super host’ revealed she was hiding in a WhatsApp-proof bunker and not taking calls. Perversely, their parlous list of cooking items included the bottom half of a filter coffee machine (the glass bit with the handle). It is interesting logic to fill the very small kitchen with stuff that has no use at all. Still, a boiled egg later, we were in a repurposed pharmacy for real coffee and cake and a couple of hours later we stumbled on a Parilla style indoor market so it wasn’t a bad morning after all.
