Arrival in Salta

We arrived in Salta on Wednesday 18th September off the back of a problem free flight from Iguazu. From what we had read, we expected a taxi booking service to be in the terminal at Salta Airport. This was not the case. The taxi rank at Salta Airport was chaotic. Loads of people waiting, no actual queueing and no actual taxis. Not very British at all! We didn’t panic. It transpired that the Salta taxi community were aware that Salta had an airport and gradually the taxis arrived. The journey to the accommodation wasn’t very inspiring and we had a few ours to wander around town before we were let in. First impressions were not good. A slightly edgy feeling pervaded as we sauntered around, with plenty of ramshackle buildings and broken pavements. The streets were busy and the acrid smell of traffic pollution was in the air. Had we made a big mistake?
The next day we got into the whole experience a bit more and started to relax. By day 3 we really like the place. It seems very safe and we know where all the best food and drink is to be found. We expect to be here around a week with some day trips planned in.
